NV Youth Legislature Deadline to Apply is March 31st
Posted 2/27/19

Nevada Youth Legislature – March 31, 2019, is an important deadline for students in Nevada. This is the last day that current 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students can apply for appointment by their State Senators to the 2019-2021 term in the Nevada Youth Legislature (NYL). Visit whittell.com for more information or see Ms. Gerlinger. The NYL program provides a unique opportunity for young people in Nevada to learn about representative government and participate in policymaking. Youth Legislators represent the 21 state senatorial districts in Nevada. Each Youth Legislator serves as the voice for the 27,000 to 42,000 youth, under the age of 18, who live in his or her senatorial district. Youth Legislators participate in monthly interactive trainings during each school year, as well as conduct meetings and gain real-world experience with the legislative process. The culmination of the Youth Legislators’ term is the selection of a single bill draft request (BDR) from the 21 ideas submitted by the Youth Legislators. This BDR will be submitted to the Nevada Legislature during its 2021 Legislative Session. Interested students can find an application at: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Division/Research/NYL/docs/NYLApplication2019-2021.pdf
